La Trinidad cops to strengthen anti-obstruction drive

MOTORISTS right-of-way and pedestrians should be maximized instead of full parked vehicles.

The statement was the gist of a La Trinidad Municipal Council resolution that aims to strengthen clearing national roads of any illegal obstructions within the road-right-of-way (Rrow).

In a proposed resolution, the traffic management section of the La Trinidad Municipal Police Station are tasked to immediately coordinate with the Benguet First District Engineering Office of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in clearing the national roads of any illegal obstructions within the Rrow.

This also strengthens the DPWH issued Department Order No.73 stipulating the prohibited use within the right-of-way of national roads, in the interest of public safety, convenience and of the common good.

Section 23 of revised Philippine Highway Act also states it is unlawful for any person to usurp any portion or to obstruct the same in any manner.

Seeking the assistance of the law enforcement body to strengthen operations of police powers, Councilor Nestor Fongwan Jr. has urged the Traffic Management Section of LTMPS and DPWH to immediately clear national roads of any illegal obstructions.

"They should clear the area for people to avoid accidents and lessen the traffic. It should serve as an alternate road now they have used it as a parking area," said Fongwan.

This year, a total of 2,270 violations of illegal obstruction from January to November were recorded in the municipality.
