City allows vendors to sell from Osmena to R. Chavez

VENDORS will be allowed to sell Christmas items on the streets from December 18 to December 31 this year.

Different vendors’ organizations had been requesting the Cagayan de Oro City Government to allow them to sell their wares in the streets and the City Administrations Office, Roads and Traffic Administration (RTA), and the City Economic Enterprises Department (Ceed) gave them the go signal to do so last week.

But a city official said vendors can only sell in designated streets or from Osmeña Street until Ramon Chavez Street.

The city also explicitly clarified that the vendors should be off limits at the Antonio Luna Street. They will be allowed to display their products starting today until December 31.

Paul Douglas Calingin, Ceed management team leader, said the vendors are also only allowed to start displaying their products at 7 p.m. until dawn. The whole stretch of the designated area should be cleared in the morning.

All vendors who wish to display their products on the designated streets during the holiday season, shall send their application at the Ceed for them to undergo the screening process.

The Ceed announced that they will only entertain individual applications, and not in groups.

Sidewalk vendors of Carmen market will also be allowed to display outside of the market vicinity but they will also undergo screening, to regulate the number of vendors so as not to contribute to the heavy traffic.

Task Force Hapsay Dalan chairman lawyer Edgardo Uy warned the vendors that those who refuse to obey the guidelines will be barred from selling on the streets. He said all RTA personnel are also directed to confiscate the Christmas items of a vendor if he or she disobeys the rules.

The RTA continues its campaign to clear the roads from any obstruction, and that one of its target is that there should be no roads that will be closed during the holidays, adding all requests for road closure activities will be carefully evaluated.
