Bacolod to hold 2nd drug rehab in January

THE City of Bacolod will hold the second batch of community based-drug rehabilitation program (CBDRP) for drug surrenderers in January 2018.

Executive assistant Rodel Parcon, focal person for the CBDRP, said Sunday, December 17, the city has already organized 10 teams with seven members each that will be deployed to the 10 police stations.

He said the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) forwarded the lists of surrenderers to the village officials.

“Per police station covers a certain numbers of barangays and the 10 teams will coordinate with the barangay (village) officials,” he added.

In May this year, 65 drug reformists completed the eight-week CBDRP activities facilitated by the City Anti-Drug Abuse Council (Cadac).

The drug dependents were among those who voluntarily surrendered to the 10 police stations in Bacolod and endorsed to Cadac for rehabilitation.

Parcon said they will be using the Department of Health (DOH) protocol for the drug rehabilitation program.

“We will start with screening and those who pass will undergo the CBDRP,” he said.

The drug rehabilitation team is composed of personnel from City Health Office (CHO), BCPO, and Department of Social Services and Development (DSSD).

In 2016, Bacolod City has about 4,000 drug surrenderers.

Parcon said the drug surrenderers should finish the eight-week CBDRP activities so that their names will be removed from the drug lists.

He recalled that when he attended a review of drug facilities seminar in Iloilo City, it was announced that there was an allotment of P50 million for a drug rehabilitation facility in Bacolod.

Parcon said the CHO in coordination with the City Engineer’s Office will coordinate with the DOH for the standards and specifications of the drug rehabilitation center.

“After we finish the design, it will be forwarded to the DOH for the release of the budget,” he said.

Parcon added that the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency also promised to give P5 million for the drug rehabilitation program of Bacolod.
