A MUCH safer People’s Park is drawing more tourists and visitors after the city poured in money to renovate the park.

The Davao City Information Office reported that the city spent P4.5 million to renovate the park to make it more friendly and safe to children.

The renovation entailed the installation of a 360 meter rubber mat floor that protects children from injuries.

"We reconstructed the fun park area so that we can comply with the safety standard that is requirement for a children's playground," Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio said in a statement.

Adding enjoyment for the children is the candy distribution and picture opportunity with Santa Clause, which starts at 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Park manager Architect Jenny Ann Matuguinas said the recent development of the park had brought in more local and foreign tourists.

"We observed an increase (in the number) of people visiting People's Park, whether they are Dabawenyos or foreigners, we can really see that they are enjoying our park," Matuguinas said.

Aside from the fun park, lights with shades of soft neon, pink, green, and blue are also one of the park's highlights. Trees around the park are also wrapped with lights that illuminate the entire place.

The park opens as early as 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. (KVC with reports from CIO)
