Upholding global recognition

IN UPHOLDING its vision of becoming a globally recognized institution, the University of Mindanao (UM) has designed different activities in pursuing excellence in its trifold function particularly in the field of instruction.

This is not only evident in the university’s different colleges but also in its professional schools where thousands of students working in private and public sectors are now studying in different programs under the supervision of Dean Eugenio Guhao Jr., D.M.

To achieve its vision, doctoral students and faculty members are required to present their researches in the international conferences.

Aside from paper presentation, researches of students and faculty members must be published in international journals.

Just last November 11 to 13, five public administration faculty members attended the 2nd Global Research and Education Conference at The Crown Regency Hotel and Towers in Cebu City.

The conference was participated in by educators from prestigious private and state universities and colleges in the country.

To ensure that the students will be properly guided in their researches, a Research Capability Building Seminar for Advisers was also held last Saturday, December 16.

Dean Guhao said the seminar will train professors to give valuable insights to all advisees working on their thesis and dissertations.

Dr. Ana Raissa Trinidad, Professional Schools Research coordinator, discussed the adviser's duties and responsibilities, thesis and dissertation flow, research course plan, defense guide and checklists for research defense.

Prof. Roy Nalla, of UM Research Ethics Committee, discussed the importance of an independent body to ensure that all researches will pass the ethical standards prior to publication in international journal.

The Professional Schools is not only concerned in research development but also in international leadership training workshops for students.

Thus, students of Doctor in Public Administration, Doctor of Philosophy in Management and faculty members participated in the leadership training entitled "Training on Leading Change towards Organizational Excellence" last October 21, 2017.

The training was in partnership with the UM Professional Schools with Queensland University of Technology in Australia.

The event was designed to develop the leadership skills of the graduate students under the Graduate Student Development Program of the university.

Also, present in the event were dean of colleges and universities from other schools in Davao Region who enjoyed the workshops of Nelson Salangsang, Project Coordinator of Queensland University of Technology.

For next year, there will be many activities that are designed to improve the level of accreditations of all programs of the university.
