Mendoza: Fashionable and sumptuous holidays with the ‘Cake Princess’

CHRISTMAS and New Year are definitely among the widely celebrated occasions. To make them special, we even decorate our homes and prepare delectable treats.

However, it is not always that we have the luxury of time to prepare everything - from the buffet table to dressing up the room for that festive mood.

How about hiring a helping hand to do all these things for us?

This budding chef-entrepreneur based in Davao City can be that “fairy godmother” we have been looking for to help us out with the preparations.

Chef Sofia Tricia Kalaw Zosa, a native of Batangas, is known for her cakes, pastries, and scrumptious fixes to make every celebration extra special. She also has the “magic wand” and artistic hands in transforming any room into a party nook complete with decorations according to the gathering’s theme.

“My love for food and arts gave me the opportunity to be unique by creating my own original recipes and designs,” the 23-year-old chef said.

What is unique about this young owner of Sofia’s Home Baked Goodies is her passion in coming up with her own recipes.

“I got inspired in creating my own recipes knowing that a lot of people could actually bake, I wanted to be unique and to have my own signature. I am a type of person who goes beyond the norm,” she said, adding that each of her creations has “a story to tell, each of them has a part of me.”

Believing that her gift must be shared, Sofia now serves as a chef instructor at the Department of Trade and Industry’s Negosyo Center.

“DTI and Negosyo Center became my gateway to reaching out to more people, not just to clients but also to baking and cooking enthusiasts who are very much willing and eager to learn. Also, with their (DTI) Mentor Me program, I now have a great overview in handling and managing my business,” she said.

While the business she opened last October 25, 2016 was a huge success, she had no choice but to close it. What was even disheartening was the fact that she already had a lot of patrons then.

“My burger boodle, eat all you can, and cakes became a hit but sadly, due to the location problems, since it was a flood area, I had to close my store six months after,” she recalled

She emphasized, though, that even for that experience, her entrepreneurial spirit has never been dampened.

“I didn’t take it as a downfall since I started my business online, my clients are still up,” she said.

“Till now, I do meet ups and deliveries for orders. Now that I am 23, I feel great and I am proud to say that I have turned my passion into profession,” added the chef whose parents initially dreamt of seeing “Atty.” attached to her name.

At present, Sofia is looking for a space that can house her products and, of course, her talent and skills.

To experience her “magic touch” in baking and catering, you may follow her Facebook page: Sofia’s HomeBakedGoodies. She can be reached as well at mobile number 09472629285. I assure you, you will never go wrong if you choose the “Cake Princess,” Chef Sofia.
