Vintage bomb to be detonated on Thursday

THE World War II-era bomb discovered in a business process outsourcing (BPO) hub in Barangay Apas, Cebu City will be detonated on Thursday dawn, in a mining site's pit in Barangay Don Andres Soriano, formerly Lutopan, in Toledo City, Cebu.

The bomb, which weighed around 2,000 pounds, was transported to the mining site on Wednesday dawn.

Personnel of the Explosives and Ordnance Disposal team will detonate the bomb on Thursday, December 21, in the mining site's pit.

Construction workers discovered the unexploded ordnance 50 feet below the ground last Saturday. It was then turned over to the EOD team of the military.

Police officials, including Police Regional Office-Central Visayas Director Jose Mario Espino, urged the public to call nearest police stations to verify any information if a bomb is found in their area.

Espino said the public should not spread the pictures of a bomb in social media to avoid panic. (KAL/SunStar Cebu)
