APALIT -- Just in time for Christmas Day, the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) played Santa Claus Friday, as it awarded more than P3.8-million funds to the local government here which benefitted hundreds of disadvantaged workers in town.
Dole Pampanga Director Arlene Tolentino led the turnover of funds to Mayor Peter Nucom and Public Employment Services Office Manager Jenny Gamboa which were intended for the salary of Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Displaced Workers (Tupad) and starter kits beneficiaries.
At least 889 indigent residents of Barangays Cansinala, Sucad, Sampaloc and Paligui received their 10-day salary amounting to a total of P3,378,200 or P3,800 each after rendering services tasked to them by the local government.
“Nagwawalis sila sa mga daan, may nagsandbagging doon sa natibag na portion ng dike sa Barangay Cansinala, may naglinis ng kanal. Kung ano ‘yung pwede nilang gawin, ginawa naman nila at itong pay-out na ito ang sahod nila,” she said.
Meanwhile, Gamboa also said that 98 beneficiaries also received starter kits for welding, refrigerator and air conditioning repair, facial and massage as part of the livelihood assistance program of Dole.
The said equipment amounted to a total of P475,000 which are aimed at providing additional source of income to the families of the beneficiaries.
Tolentino said that the Dole Pampanga continues to allocate funds for all municipalities in Pampanga as aid to the indigent and displaced workers who cannot look for a permanent jobs outside of their municipalities.
“Regular naman natin itong ginagawa pero this time, mas special kasi pinilit namin na maibigay ito bago magpasko dahil alam namin na inaasahan ito ng ating mga kababayan. At sana kahit papaano ay naging parte ng paskong Apaliteño ang Dole,” she said.
Nucom, for his part, extended his gratitude to Dole Pampanga for its generosity to the people of Pampanga after it downloaded millions of projects to this town in 2017 alone.
“Malaki ang naging parte ng DOLE sa taong ito para sa aming mga taga-Apalit. Daan-daang TUPAD beneficiaries, mga negokarts, livelihood assistance at kung anu-ano pang tulong kaya napakalaki din ng pasasalamat namin sa kanila. At sana sa darating na taon ay maging partner pa rin namin sila para sa pag-unlad ng Apalit,” he said.
