Long wait, hope for stranded bus passengers at CSBT

DESPITE the sleepless night they spent at the Cebu South Bus Terminal (CSBT), Juvy Maro and her two children continued to hope that a bus trip bound for Zamboanga would open soon.

Maro and her two boys, aged five and seven, were among the many families stranded as tropical storm Vinta continued to affect Mindanao.

“We really want to spend Christmas in Basilan so we’ll just stay here hoping that a trip will be opened,” she said.

Jonathan Tumulak, security officer of the CSBT, said that all bus trips have been opened except for Zamboanga.

“Vinta is still affecting the areas under signal number one so there’s trouble getting to Dapitan,” said Tumulak.

He also reminded the public that there might be a shortage of buses as the drivers may also celebrate Christmas with their families.

Meanwhile, officials of the Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 handed out fliers with safety tips at the Cebu South Bus Terminal.

Supt. Renato Dugan, chief of the Regional Police Community Relations Division, said that while waiting to ride their buses, passengers were informed of basic do’s and don’ts during the holiday season.

Jonathan Abella, 37, was traveling with his wife and five-year-old boy.

“We really appreciate the tips from the police so that we can watch out for any lawless elements who might try to victimize us,” he said.

As added security measure, K-9 units and members from the Provincial Public Safety Battalion were also detailed at the facility. (JOB)
