Avila bats for no parking in Ibaloi Park

BAGUIO City Couniclor Edgar Avila said a ban on parking at the Ibalaoi Park must ensue in accordance to laws.

“In Melvin Jones, bawal mag park sa football field so I’m just saying na di rin dapat i-allow sa Ibaloi Park kasi nasisira ung grounds,” said Avila.

Biking concessionaires said vehicles parking at the Ibaloi Park are causing confusion as well as pose danger to young bikers in the park and asked if an access road form Kisad could be made so as not to endanger further park goers.

“The area was never intended for parking,” added Avila.

During a recent council session, the concessionaires appealed to the local council on a problem on safety at the bike lane.

City Environment and Parks Management Office (Cepmo) head Colleen Lacsamana said the Onjon ni Ivadoy has been told to coordinate with the office when there are events in the area but said the organization has not complied with the request.

Lacasama said guidelines to parking and use of the park is being readied for the mayor to make into an administrative order.

The area is wide and houses a traditional hut where Ibaloi elders converge for meetings and gatherings. The space is also used as a parking facility for visitors of the park but have to pass through the bike lane which has now caused a problem.

Bike concessionaires said there was an accident last year involving a young biker and a vehicle on its way into the Ibaloi Park.

Errol Tagle, president of the Onjon ni Ivadoy, was also present during the meeting and said he has not been informed about the accident involving the biker.

A resolution designated the area located between the Children’s Playground and the Orchidarium for the site of the Mateo Cariño monument as an Ibaloi Heritage Garden to be part of the Burnham Park master development plan.
