Viray: Hurry, worry and bury

A PARAGRAPH has no meaning if the sentences have no period. A speech is intelligible if there are no pauses. In the hustle and bustle of life, we forget to stop a little and take a stock at our blessings.

Look at yourself in the mirror. Are you healthy? If yes, you are wealthy. Remember that even if you have all the riches of the world, if you are bed ridden, you are unhappy.

Do you have a job? If yes, then you are lucky. You have a means of income/ livelihood.

You don’t have to experience the pangs of hunger. Love your job and try to be loyal to the organization that you belong.

Do you love people who love you? If yes, love them in return. Love your parents. Love your children. Love your partner. Love your relatives. Care for your friends. You are a blessing to those who love you.

If you do these things, you don’t have to worry. If you report hastily everyday for work, you seem not to have time to be appreciative of the more important things in life.

You worry of problems that are beyond solutions. The weather is not within our control. The price of gasoline is not within our hands. What North Korea would do to its weapons is its problem.

You worry of security in your job. You worry that you are not loved. Love yourself first, before others can show their love to you.

Worry leads to ailment or disease. If you worry, your immunity goes down and you become sickly.

Then you get buried. Death is the greatest equalizer. We bury the dead. We bury those who died heroically like Ninoy and the rest who perished in the darkness of the night. We bury those victims of violence, whether they fought back or not. We mourn the death of our loved ones. We die because we hurry and then worry.

I am grateful to our Roman Catholic Archbishop Florentino Lavarias for providing us the ideas in this column. We attended the Simbang Gabi of December 22, 2017 at St. Jude Parish and we listened to his homily; hence this hurry, worry and bury column.
