Baguio cops warned on firing guns this New Year

BAGUIO City Police Office director Senior Superintendent Rami Saculles reminded police officers in the city to comply with the orders on indiscriminate firing during the changing of the year.

“We remind our fellow policemen on the penalties under the indiscriminate firing. Those found to be violating the order may find themselves in hot water, and similar to what we undertook last year, the station commander where any police personnel is assigned will have to be relieved while his personnel will face the penalties under the order,” Saculles said.

Indiscriminate firing is punishable under Article 155 of the Revised Penal Code with a 30-day imprisonment or a P200 fine.

Saculles also reiterated the order of Philippine National Police (PNP) Director General Ronald Dela Rosa for police personnel to go after suspected persons who have fired their guns during the Christmas and New Year revelry and file the necessary cases.

The BCPO also continues to conduct random checkpoints in the city to ensure the non-entry of firecrackers in the city.

“We continue to conduct inspections to confiscate and destroy prohibited firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices in accordance with Executive Order number 28 as well as Republic Act no. 7183 or the act regulating the sale, manufacture, distribution and use of firecrackers and other pyrotechnics devices,” Saculles said.

Earlier, Baguio City Mayor Mauricio Domogan expressed his intention of not providing business permits to would-be firecracker dealers who have not passed the necessary requirements.

Local government units were reminded by the Department of the Interior and the Local Government to issue permits for the conduct of community fireworks display specifying the date and time of fireworks display and specific areas in which the display will be conducted in conformity with the national standards, rules and regulations.

Based on Republic Act 7183, only baby rockets, bawang, pulling of strings, small triangle, paper caps, el diablo and sky rockets or kwitis can be manufactured, sold, distributed and used.

For pyrotechnics devices, sparkles, luces, fountains, jumbo regular and special, mabuhay, Roman candles, trompilo, airwolf, whistle devices and butterfly are allowed while all others are not allowed.
