A memorable Christmas for Lapu-Lapu City’s kids

AROUND 20,000 children in Lapu-Lapu City were treated to games and party food in this year’s Kiddieland, which the City Government hosted for the fifth year.

Inflatable rides, free food and toys were given to the children, including those from the islet barangays.

Nicole Balao, Kiddieland coordinator and executive assistant of the City Tourism Office, said the City spent P1.5 million for these activities.

For children from mainland Lapu-Lapu, the two-day activity was held at the Hoops Dome last Friday up to yesterday.

Mayor Paz Radaza cut the ribbon to open the event.

Balao said the City has been holding the Kiddieland yearly to make Christmas memorable for every child.

Aside from the inflatable rides, a building block room and a robotics booth manned by the City’s robotics team were also set up.

Different food stations were set up in the venue where the children could get food for free.

While waiting for their kids, the parents and guardians were also provided with free massage, fish spa, haircut and make-up.

Balao said there were over 10,000 kids from 19 mainland barangays who gathered in Hoops Dome for the Kiddieland.

The City Government also brought the Kiddieland to Olango Island last Dec. 20 and 21 for the kids who cannot cross to the mainland. It was set up at the Mini Hoops Dome.

There were 10,987 children from the island barangays who came to experience the rides and other activities.

“The Lapu-Lapu City Government offered these activities to the people of Olango for our Christmas celebration,” Radaza said.

Last Dec. 19, some 120 youth volunteers wearing Santa Claus costume rode bicycles and distributed candies and other goodies to the children in Olango.

They visited different houses and shared gifts with the kids. (FMG)
