DEDICATION in building partnership and emphasizing grassroots development are the focuses of the Philippine Rugby Football Union’s program Get Into Rugby (GIR) in 2017, PRFU GIR manager Rose Lanticse said during a Facebook conversation with Sun.Star Davao yesterday.
Lanticse said they have finally forged a legit partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd) Davao City Division last year.
“We have kicked off our partnership with DepEd Davao City Division this year (2017 as of this writing), which was a very big learning curve for our National Sports Association (NSA),” Lanticse said as they dream of inculcating and including the GIR program to the DepEd, collegiate sports and P.E. (Physical Education) training modules.
The program, Lanticse said, also envisions the sport to become part of Palarong Pambansa and open opportunity for its graduates to soon represent the country in overseas tournaments including the Southeast Asian Games.
Lanticse also emphasized that the 1st U17s Philippine Lady Volcanoes could attest that the pathway to the national team is possibly through the GIR program.
Lanticse also said the GIR program is an important tool in the grassroots rugby development in the country because it provides an international standard avenue for 1st time rugby players, coaches and officials.
“This year’s Get Into Rugby successes and needs-to-improve have set a benchmark for further development in other regions, leading to our goal of having an #ImpactBeyond2019,” Lanticse said on their long-term vision. (ABM)
