8 injured in Mandaue due to firecrackers

AT LEAST eight persons, including four minors, were brought to the three hospitals in Mandaue City after they suffered burns due to firecrackers and pyrotechnics explosion during the New Year celebration.

City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (CDRRM) Officer Felix Suico Jr. said three persons were brought to Eversley Child Sanitarium and General Hospital, one to Dr. Ignacio M. Cortes General Hospital and four to the Mandaue City Hospital.

According to Suico, the minors ages six, 13 and 15, suffered burns due to “binggala.” The other five persons were injured due to firecrackers.

The CDRRM Office did not record any fire alarm during the New Year celebration.

Despite the firecracker injuries, Vice Mayor Carlo Fortuna, who served as the acting mayor, said the New Year was still “very peaceful and happy” based on his overall assessment in Mandaue. (FMG/SunStar Cebu)
