Camomot’s body to be exhumed on Jan. 3

THE Archdiocese of Cebu announced that the body of the late Archbishop Teofilo Camomot will be exhumed today and it will be transferred to its new home in a museum dedicated to his memory.

Before that, Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma will hold a private mass at 9 a.m. at the Daughters of St. Therese (DST) Mother House in Barangay Valladolid, Carcar City, Cebu.

Dr. Erwin Erfe, a forensic expert, and his team will perform the exhumation.

Fr. Mhar Vincent Balili, vice postulator of Camomot’s cause, told reporters that the procedure will last until 5 p.m. today.

It will be the second time that Camomot’s remains will be exhumed. A decade ago, the same procedure was made at the Carcar Public Cemetery, where he was first buried, and his remains were transferred to the DST Mother House.

Aside from Erfe, Fr. Samson Selloriquez, the main postulator of Camomot’s cause, will be present during the process and examination of the late archbishop’s body.

Selloriquez will also be present to collect a part of Camomot’s remains, which will serve as a relic should he become a saint.

After the exhumation, Camomot’s remains will be transferred to the Domus Teofilo, the official museum dedicated to Camomot. At 5 p.m. the museum will be opened to the public. (JKV)
