Mandaue village chief says suspension is politically motivated

A VILLAGE chief said the preventive suspension imposed against him in relation to the alleged involvement in a “ghost delivery” of construction materials was politically motivated considering that the barangay election is nearing.

Village Captain Renato Suson of Labogon, Mandaue City was on preventive suspension since last December 28.

Suson, however, continued reporting to Barangay Labogon Hall to help in the garbage collection and peace and order.

But clarified that he was not signing any documents in the barangay after the memorandum related to the suspension was served.

He called for a press conference later on in a mall here to give his comments on the complaint related to the alleged “false delivery” of construction materials intended for the rehabilitation of the village’s material recovery facility.

“Nasagmuyo kog dako,” he said.

The City’s committee of good government, public ethics and accountability chaired by City Coucilor Nenita Layese stated in its report that “the fact that there was no actual receipt of deliveries of 65 bags of cement, 5 cubic meters of gravel, 5 cubic meters of sand and 1,000 pieces of hollow blocks are very serious charges, aggravated by the fact of non-compliance with the provisions of RA 9184 as to the procurement of the aforesaid materials.”

Suson showed to reporters the receipts contrary to what was stated in the complaint against him.

Along with Suson, Village Councilors Alfredo Estrada and Benwilson Bodo Jr. were preventively suspended for 60 days after their fellow officials filed a complaint on violation of Republic Act 3019 or the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act.

The complainants were Barangay Councilors Amado Manatad, Corazon Dajao-Tumulak, Marvin Soco and Baby Besabella Gutierrez. (SunStar Cebu)
