Gun ban eyed on Sinulog 2018

A GUN ban will possibly be implemented during the Sinulog festival, said an official of Cebu City Police Office (CCPO).

Superintendent Artemio Ricabo, the CCPO deputy for operations, said they have yet to send a request to Camp Crame, which had enforced gun ban in the past.

Last year, Police Director General Ronald dela Rosa approved the request of Police Regional Office-Central Visayas to implement a ten-day gun ban in Cebu Province and Cebu City to secure the safety of all participants of the Sinulog.

All Permits to Carry Firearms Outside of Residence were suspended except for the police, army and other agencies whose officers are in prescribed uniforms. The police will also implement the security measures that were put in place during the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) meetings held in Cebu last year.

Ricabo said the Asean security template involves other government agencies who can help in medical emergency situations.

He said police’s main tasks are to secure the peace and order and the high profile public officials who will watch the Sinulog grand parade. (KAL)
