LA TRINIDAD Mayor Romeo Salda ordered forests guard within the Puguis-Lamtang Road to man the area after the unabated dumping of garbage during the holidays.
Acting on a tip from a concerned citizen, Salda together with some town officials inspected the area and saw close to almost a ton of construction materials including biodegradable wastes and several documents.
Salda said they will assign forest guards to monitor the area especially during night time.
The mayor added installation of signages within the stretch of the Puguis-Lamtang Road will be made informing the public not to dump their wastes along the highways.
According to Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office Arthur Pedro, this was not the first incident of dumping garbage in the area.
On December 21 last year, police were able to arrest Christian Sarenas, Jhon Patrick Bautista, and Billymar Fabrigas Santos who were caught in the act of dumping coconut peelings at the side of a riprap along the road near the Puguis Communal Forest.
"We again remind our constituents to be more vigilant particularly in protecting our environment. Please report to the other proper authorities any illegal activities observed in your areas," stated in a Facebook post by Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office.
Based on the municipal solid waste management ordinance to implement a maximum penalty of P2,500 fine will be imposed to violators. Aside from the maximum penalty, a haul back policy will also be ordered to suspects dumping their wastes.
