THE City Council secretary said on Wednesday she has not yet received any reply from the Office of the President on the resignation letter sent by Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte last December.
Secretary Charito Santos told reporters that Davao City Councilor Bernard Al-ag will continue to serve as acting vice mayor of the city.
Santos said the arrangement will remain until the resignation will be accepted by the President.
“It will be deemed approved pursuant to the provisions of law, if it remains unacted after the lapse of 15 (working) days. It will be deemed approved,” she said. Santos added that the fifteen days will be counted after it was received by the President.
Wednesday, January 3, was just the fourth day since the letter was submitted as there have been several holidays in between.
She said based on the succession and ranking, Al-ag will replace Duterte as vice mayor given the number of votes he received during the elections.
Santos added that any change on the committee chairmanships will be decided by the Council.
The vice mayor announced his resignation last December 25; and according to Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, her brother already sent the letter to the Office of the President last December 26.
The eldest of the Duterte siblings cited problems in connection with his first wife and his name being tagged in the P6.4-billion drug smuggling controversy at the Bureau of Customs as among the reasons of his resignation.
