P40-M 4-storey Davao City library to rise

THE groundbreaking ceremony for the new P40-million, four-storey Davao City Library is scheduled this month.

Davao City Library head Pedrita Badar told SunStar Davao on Wednesday that this week the contractor will start the demolition of the buildings located at the former Central 911 Building along C. Bangoy Street, fronting Davao Light and Power Company.

“I’ve already told them (contractors) to start (the demolition). City Engineer’s Office and City Environment and National Resources Office (Cenro) will assist them,” she said.

Badar said the ground floor will cater to persons with disabilities, children and senior citizens. Each floor will also have restrooms. The building will have elevators.

She said there will also be a floor designated for the computer area. They currently have 10 computers and they are requesting 20 more for the new building.

Badar said additional personnel have been proposed but they will need to review the existing vacant positions and they will need to observe the demand for personnel on the first six months of the library’s operation.

“It (addition of personnel) will not be immediate since we need to observe the demand first,” she said.

The expected completion of the building is in 2019.

The project is funded by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation.
