Duterte to strengthen emergency response

PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte is gearing to strengthen the emergency response capacity of the uniformed personnel as well as the Central 911 in Davao City.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said on Thursday that the President met with the officers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Philippine National Police (PNP) and personnel of 911 to discuss how to better improve the service and protocols in a bid to better serve the public in times of an emergency.

“I understand, yesterday that the President met with the Bureau of Fire Protection people, the PNP here in Davao and the agenda was how to strengthen 911,” he said.

He cited that the President aims to make Davao City “the showcase for 911 and he wants all reforms in 911 to be implemented in Davao also to be implemented nationwide.”

The President also discussed with police officers the aspect of arrest and seizure in accordance to the constitution to avoid unnecessary actions.

“The President somehow lectured the police, he did not lecture them on anything outside of issues affecting the police force such as how to serve warrants, instances of warrantless arrest,” he said.
