Global Cebu loses another key player in transfer window

AFTER losing two of its stars in the latest transfer window, Global Cebu FC loses yet another one.

The Cebu club bid farewell to star defender Amani Aguinaldo Friday, announcing his departure in a post on its official Facebook page.

Global Cebu FC earlier in the morning announced that the club has acquired the services of 19-year-old defender Jordan Jarvis from the Davao Aguilas.

Global Cebu FC, however, didn’t mention on where Aguinaldo, one of the country’s best center backs, is moving.

One thing’s for sure is that Aguinaldo will be moving to a different Philippines Football League (PFL) club.

The frontrunners of signing up Aguinaldo are PFL champion Ceres Negros FC and Davao Aguilas. Though there have been unofficial reports that Ceres Negros FC has already picked up the 22-year-old defender, there has been no official word from Ceres Negros FC.

Ceres Negros FC has been very busy in the transfer window signing veteran Spanish goalkeeper Toni Doblas from CD San Fernando, Japanese striker Takumi Uesato from JPV Marikina FC and Sean Patrick Kane also from JPV Markina FC.

Global Cebu FC, who’s now owned by Alvin Carranza, already lost two key players – skipper Misagh Bahadoran and winger Hikaru Minegishi.

Aguinaldo was signed by Global Cebu FC in 2013 from the FC Meralco Manila, then called Loyola Meralco Sparks, in the now defunct United Football League (UFL). He had a total of 42 caps for Global Cebu FC and helped the club win titles in the UFL in 2014 and 2016.

Aguinaldo spent most of Global Cebu FC’s inaugural campaign in the PFL on the sidelines after suffering an ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) injury. (RSC)
