Easy like Sunday morning

STEEPED in the richness and charm of Cebu’s Hispanic heritage, it continually innovates to enhance the overall guest experience. Over four decades later, Montebello’s local and international following is telling of its dedication to provide business and leisure travelers with luxury and comfort in an enchanting, verdant setting.

The latest addition to the ever-evolving property is Café Bougainvillea. Adjacent to the hotel’s game room, the 20-seater café is more quaint than upmarket, appealing to different age groups. It is flanked by open areas on two sides, allowing for natural lighting and an airy atmosphere. The interior is fetchingly finished with black and white mosaic floor tiling, and décor that’s limited to a few key pieces carefully considered before being installed.

The eponymous flower is a work of art on a wall mural, while the open kitchen encourages interaction between the chef and the guests. But more than its cohesive color scheme and layout that mimics purpose, Café Bougainvillea promises simple yet satisfying food. Focusing more on divine desserts and light and savory bites, the European-inspired menu was developed by Chef Vinz Karlsen, Montebello’s executive chef.

“Everything will be made in front of the guests. It’s not a huge menu. It’s Europeaninspired but adjusted to the Filipino taste, so nothing is totally unfamiliar,” says Chef Vinz. Here, one can have his fill of salads, sandwiches, tortilla wraps, savory and sweet crepes, Montebello’s famous brownies, New York cheesecake, and more. A la carte breakfast will also be made available at the café, so guests can choose from continental, Asian or Filipino, and healthy breakfast options.

So whether one wants to sit down and read the papers over a cup of coffee, hatch plans for a project over lunch, have high tea and while away the afternoon, or linger over cocktails in the early evening, let Café Bougainvillea take the weight off and sweep you off your feet.
