P4M up for Misamis Oriental's Kuyamis Festival

THE Provincial Government of Misamis Oriental is spending around P4 million for the Kuyamis Festival in time for its 88th founding anniversary this week.

The week-long celebration, which will kick off Monday, January 8, will be filled with a lot of activities and fanfare.

Capitol spokesperson Nicole Managbanag said everything has been set for the annual festivity, which will end on January 12.

She said more activities have been added in this year’s celebration.

Kuyamis Festival was the brainchild of Governor Yevgeny Emano when he assumed office in 2013.

“My people, as usual, will be in high spirits again as we celebrate this very big event in our province,” Emano said.

Police authorities and the provincial disaster office have already set up strategic blueprints for peace and security measures.

Emano said the festival will highlight the promotion and showcase the beauties and wonders of the province and its local produce under the one-town-on product (Otop) program.

The festivity will be preceded with a mass at the Nazareno Parish church.

Several activities include street dancing and other competitions, such as dance, agri-tourism booth, culinary and cooking demonstrations and sports events.

Twenty ladies from the different towns are also vying to take home the crown as Miss Kuyamis 2018.

At the capitol grounds, spectators would also witness the meat and livestock shows, food exposition and enjoy affordable products displayed at the Tiangge sa Kapitolyo.

A governor’s night will also be held on January 12, a night before the first ever search for Miss Gay Misamis Oriental.

“Daghan gidugang karon nga mga activities (We added a lot of activities this year),” Managbanag said.

As Misamis Oriental’s slogan goes “Explore MisOr,” Emano invited everyone to visit the province and witness the spectacular events, as well as enjoy the beauties, wonders and local products and delicacies of the province. (Alwen Saliring)
