New mobile library delivered next month

A NEW mobile library for the Davao City Library is set to be delivered in February.

Davao City Library and Information Center head Pedrita Badar told SunStar in an interview that the P6.5-million mobile bus will also serve as a mobile library for disaster risk education, which will be done in partnership with Davao City Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO).

Badar revealed the planned procurement of another mobile library in a media forum last April 2017.

She said this additional mobile library will be used to expand their coverage to more than 25 barangays of the city.

In the same forum, she said that at present, the only one functional mobile library is making rounds in 25 barangays. It stays for 14 days in a barangay before it goes to another barangay.

They actually have two mobile libraries but the other bus had a mechanical defect, so they temporarily parked it in Calinan.

Present in the same forum was mobile library in-charge Elmer Amarillo, who revealed that the mobile library prioritizes far-flung areas in District 2 and 3 and offers storytelling services to children. They also offer computer literacy and gives children tutorial on how to manipulate electronic gadgets. They also have film showing.

Amarillo said they have recorded 58,236 clients served in the year 2016, which is higher compared to the 42,792 clients in the year 2015.
