Bokod bans pellet guns

MEMBERS of the Benguet Provincial Board gave a favorable review on the new ordinance banning the usage and distribution of pellet gun, gun replica and other similar devices in the municipality of Bokod.

Known as the "Bokod Pellet Gun, Gun Replica Ordinance," enacted December 18 the ordinance, it prohibits the sale, distribution and the use of pellet gun, gun replica and other similar devices and items in the municipality for public safety, peace and order without disregarding the observance of the existing cultural tradition.

"In order to deter the occurrence of more pellet gun, gun replica and other similar devices and items related injuries and to prevent the loss of life or property, the enactment of an ordinance for this purpose is necessary," the new law stated.

As the town is set to celebrate its founding anniversary later this year, officials are expecting a number of vendors to sell pellet guns and similar items that invites the attention of children.

A penalty of P1,000 for first offense is imposed to violators of the law, whole for second and third offense, a penalty of P2,000 and P2,500 including imprisonment, respectively, will be imposed upon the discretion of the court.

If violation is incurred by a business establishment, a corporation or partnership, the business permit of the establishment may be cancelled with the discretion of the court.
