A JEWELRY shop lost close to P10-million worth of silver wares and cash after robbers broke into the establishment through a sewer tunnel in Mines View Park, Baguio City.
Investigators are looking into how the robbers gained access from a man hole, which was used as an entry and exit point in hauling out silver crafts and over P49,000 in cash at stalls No. 10 and 11 of Pilak silver shop from 7 p.m. of January 6 up to 2 a.m. of January 7.
Initial investigation revealed the robbers dug a cave starting from the barangay manhole some 240 meters away from the jewelry shop.
Upon reaching the area below the jewelry shop, the robbers then used a hydraulic jack to forcefully open its concrete flooring, paving the way for them to enter the establishment and cart away the assorted and newly delivered silver jewelries.
Jewelry shop owner Precy Marcelo said that aside from the assorted jewelries, her cash worth P49,595, which was placed inside a cabinet, was taken by the robbers.
Information gathered by the police from a parking attendant stated the presence of sacks filled with soil near the manhole since December 28 of last year.
Police recovered a hydraulic jack and some wooden structures.
