Singcang-Airport fire victims to receive housing assistance

FAMILIES affected by the fire in Purok 3, Lampirong, Barangay Singcang-Airport on Saturday evening, will receive financial assistance from the Bacolod City Government.

Social Welfare Officer II Harietta Alcantara said Monday, January 8, those whose houses were destroyed will receive P10,000 each while those with damaged houses will receive P5,000 each.

She said the house sharers or renters will get P3,000 each.

The fire destroyed four houses and damaged five others.

Alcanta said 11 families were affected with a total of 49 individuals.

She said some affected families are staying with their relatives while others are temporarily sheltered at the village chapel.

The Department of Social Services and Development (DSSD) is still finalizing the data for the release of the financial assistance.

Bureau of Fire Protection records showed the fire started from the living room of Gilbert Layan’s house made of mixed light and concrete materials.

Investigation showed the fire was caused by an unattended lighted candle.

Mayor Evelio Leonardia, Councilor Caesar Distrito, and the village officials distributed food assistance to the affected families.
