2 cops wounded in firefight vs 'criminals'

AN ALLEGED member of the lawless group was killed while two policemen were wounded in a firefight in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay, the police disclosed Tuesday.

The Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula said the shootout broke out around 10 p.m. Monday in the village of Makilas, Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay.

The police said that the identity of the slain criminal was not immediately known.

The injured policemen were identified as Senior Police Officer 1 (SPO1) Noel Vesperas and PO1 Herwin Cagas, both assigned with the provincial mobile force company.

The police said the firefight ensued when the suspected criminals opened fire upon sensing the arrival of policemen, who were checking the reported presence of three gunmen led by Munjalal at the covered court of Makilas.

The police said that Munjalal has standing warrant of arrest for three-count murder.

Munjalal’s group fled and is being tracked down by the police forces in Zamboanga Sibugay.
