DavOr’s Serbisyo Caravan aims to serve more barangays

THE Serbisyo Caravan of the Provincial Government of Davao Oriental targets to cater 100 barangays more.

The caravan is designed to bring the government services down to the grassroots level especially in areas vulnerable to threats of insurgency to further empower the communities and to weaken the influence of the New People's Army (NPA).

During Monday's Kapehan sa Dabaw at Annex Building SM City Davao, chief of staff of Gov. Nelson Dayanghirang, Ednar Dayanghirang said that the governor planned to expand their caravan program to other barangays that could barely avail of government services. This will start next month.

He said that in Davao Oriental, there are a total of 183 barangays and they were able to serve 50 barangays last year under the program.

The caravan includes relief goods distribution, medical assistance, transactions in different agencies so that the people will no longer have to go downtown, such as vehicle registration from the Land Transportation Office (LTO) and lecture.

He said the caravan has two phases; the first part would be the immersion where they would introduce to the people that the government is willing to address their needs.

The second part, however, is the implementation of sustainable programs such as providing education scholarship, livelihood, among others.

“The biggest challenge is sustainability and strengthening their economic (status),” he said.

Dayanghirang said that the program of the provincial government bore a positive result after noting a high number of surrenderers in 2017.

In Davao Oriental, he said that all municipalities are cleared (of NPA infestation) except Taragona.
