Gasoline boy to face child abuse charges

A GASOLINE boy accused of child abuse was caught in Mandaue City, Thursday, January 11, after months of police search.

The suspect Moises “Junior” Benemerito, 23, was caught by operatives of Camp Ceperino Genovia, the Police Regional Mobile Group training camp, in Sibonga town.

Benemerito was accused by the parents of a 17-year-old girl for violating Republic Act 7610, an act against child abuse, exploitation and discrimination, when he had a relationship with their child.

The complaint was filed sometime in August 2017, Police Officer 2 Rey Bongcawil said.

“Matod pa sa ginikanan, wala daw sila ka gusto sa laki dayun minor de edad ila anak,” Bongcawil added.

(The parents said they do not like Benemerito and their daughter is only a minor)

Benemerito, however, claimed that he was in a relationship with the 17-year-old since 2016.

“Uyab man gud na nako siya. Dugay nami ana niya, tuig na mi kapin. Nya…mao to…nabuntis siya,” Benemerito said.

(She was my girlfriend. We were in a relationship for more than a year. And then she got pregnant)

He also added that he used to have close ties with the parents, and they only filed the complaint after discovering that their daughter was pregnant.

Benemerito also said that he and the minor still kept seeing each other in the midst of the girl’s pregnancy, but they eventually separated due to the parent’s adamant disapproval.

Police said that upon showing the warrant of arrest, Benemerito did not show any signs of resistance.

“Atubangon gyud ni nako kung unsa gyud ilang reklamo,” Benemerito said.

(I will face their complaint)

The accused will be detained in a police station in Badian, Cebu. (Erica Dancel and Clark Ermac, USC AB Communications Interns/SunStar Philippines)
