Chicken meat confiscated in Tuba

THE Department of Agriculture (DA) in the Cordillera region has denied the request of Tuba town in Benguet for the possibility of burying 30 boxes of chicken meat within the area of the Baguio Dairy Farm.

The boxes of chicken meat were discovered Sunday at the bottom of the Badiwan Bridge which used to be a garbage staging point along Marcos hi-way.

Tuba Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office sought the approval of DA officials for the possibility of burying the chicken meat which was supposed to be delivered to the city's largest mall.

"We brought along the necessary disinfectants and sprays needed in the process of burying the chicken meat once the D.A. would allow us to do so," Tuba MENRO Office Head Sammy Paquip said.

At least four to five whole chicken pieces were found in each boxes weighing around 35 to 40 kilos.

Meanwhile, Baguio City Vice - Mayor Edison Bilog expressed concern on the health of the public if the rotten chicken meat is not disposed properly.

"These perishable items should not be transported to any other areas but must be destroyed or disposed off immediately to prevent the health hazards it may bring to the public not only for Tuba but Baguio as well," Bilog stressed.

Bilog added if these were confiscated by the Department of Agriculture, then it is their call if they would dispose these perishable goods within the Baguio Dairy Farm.

Tuba is still in the process of identifying an area where these perishable goods may be disposed.
