Gang leader shot dead

A GANG leader was shot dead Thursday, January 11, after allegedly resisting arrest and firing on police operatives from Calinan Police Station who were serving his warrant of arrest.

The operation was conducted at around 12:05 a.m. on Thursday against Joshua Manon-og Dorna alias 'Sensuwi', single, a local gang leader and a resident of Purok 24, Teachers Village, Pob., Calinan, Davao City.

He has a standing warrant of arrest for alarm and scandal and Violation of Section 26 of Republic Act 1780 or an act to Regulate the Importation, Acquisition, Possession, Use, And Transfer Of Firearms.

Dorna also has a pending criminal case for robbery filed before the City Prosecutor's Office for his involvement in a recent robbery case at one of the local stores in the city.

Based on the police report, instead of surrendering before the policemen, the suspect fired at one of the arresting officer using a .38 caliber revolver.

The suspect was immediately rushed to the nearest hospital after the 911 ambulance did not arrive on time but the suspect was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

The arresting officer who was also shot was brought to the hospital for medical treatment due to the graze wound he sustained during the shooting incident.

At the crime scene, authorities found one .38 caliber revolver loaded with empty shells and live ammunition and dried marijuana leaves with fruiting tops from the suspect's possession.

The police station also requested a forensic investigation from the Philippine National Police (PNP) Regional Crime Laboratory Office (RCLO) for the fatality’s autopsy and a Crime Scene Inquest Proceeding by the City Prosecutor.
