BOC-Davao collection in 2017 up by 20%

ACTUAL collection of the Port of Davao in 2017 increased by 20.84 percent (%) to P16.43 billion from only P11.89 billion in 2016, said Bureau of Customs (BOC) Davao.

From the data provided by BOC, the volume of transactions made in the Port of Davao through the Bureau of Customs (BOC) in 2017 has also increased by 23.19% to 6.16 billion kilograms (kg) from almost 5 billion kg in 2016. This translates to a total of 26,361 transactions made in the port for the entire 2017.

The data further states that the top 10 commodities imported through the port based on their value are (1) mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes, (2) iron and steel, (3) boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (4) fertilizers, (5) miscellaneous chemical products, (6) electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (7) ceramic products, (8) articles of iron and steel, (9) animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products; prepared edible fats, animal or vegetable waxes, and (10) plastics and articles thereof.

Top 10 company importers for 2017 include Seaoil Philippines Inc.; SteelAsia Manufacturing Corp.; Phoenix Petroleum Philippines Inc.; TWA Inc.; Petrotrade Philippines Inc.; Insular Oil Corporation; Dole Philippines Inc.; Therma South Inc.; Chevron Philippines Inc.; and San Miguel Consolidated Power Corp.

“I can attribute the increase in revenue collection in the robust health of the local economy where we operate. Our economy in Davao Region is very healthy with Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2016 amounting to more than 9 percent…Even more so now that the President Rodrigo Duterte is from Davao City. We are expecting better numbers for the years forward. Second factor is the proper administration of customs rules and procedures,” said BOC Davao District Collector Dino Austria.

He added that the increased in revenue can also be attributed to the increased competency of the employees through improving their general knowledge of their function, coordination with proper offices, and strict implementation of BOC’s code of conduct.
