'Female witness' in Rotoras murder sought

AMID criticisms in showing the face of a woman whom the police considered "a possible witness" to the Rotoras murder case, the Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) maintained that it could be one of the best methods to speed up solving the case.

SITG spokesperson Chief Inspector Mardy Hortillosa II said the gunmen or the mastermind of the killing of University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) president Dr. Ricardo Rotoras may not have known the woman’s interesting role in the sensational crime.

"Busa gipakita nato ni para makatabang sa kaso ug makuhaan nato og statement. Wala ta kahibalo sa identity busa through sa social media basin matabangan ta. Sigurado mi nga wala nakabalo ang mga suspek ana," Hortillosa said.

Hortillosa showed the facial composite sketch of the "possible witness" to the case during the press briefing on Friday, January 12.

He said another person reported to the SITG that the woman could have witnessed the shooting incident.

Hortlilosa refused to further comment on the details as to how the woman became a possible witness.

"Naka-come up mi ani nga sketch kay naay nakakita sa iyaha pero dili na namo ma-detalye for security reason," Hortillosa said.

Hortillosa urged the public to report to authorities the whereabouts of the said "witness" so investigators can act on it.

The SITG also assured that they would put the "witness" into the government's witness protection program if needed.

Hortillosa is asking the "witness" to appear and cooperate with the authorities and reveal the truth.

"It's ok lang nga i-criticize mi for showing the face but para sa amo dako kaayo ni og ikatabang para ani nga kaso,"Hortillosa said.

"SITG knows the risk of posting the photo but it's more dangerous if the suspect will remain scot free," he added.
