THE Bacolod City Council approved a resolution requesting the City Engineer’s Office (CEO) and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to repair and rehabilitate all busted bridge sidewalks in the city.

The resolution, authored by Councilor Claudio Jesus Puentevella, stated that to improve dramatically the sidewalk conditions, prevent a tripping hazard, and ensure public safety, the City Government should conduct immediate repair and rehabilitation of the damaged sidewalks across the city bridges.

Puentevella said bridge are essentials to the safe movement of the public and it helps the city in accommodating large volumes pedestrian traffic.

“However, due mostly to changing climate and extreme weather event, these are now getting busted and damaged,” he said.

He added that Republic Act No. 7160 mandates the local government unit to regulate the use of streets, avenues, alleys, sidewalks, bridges, parks, and other public places and approve the construction, improvement repair, and maintenance of the same. (MAP)
