Ifugao lass lands 6th in Criminology board exams

A NATIVE of Ifugao, Zedny Curha Immatong ranked sixth with a passing rate of 88.57 percent during the December 2017 examinations of the Criminology Board Exam.

The 19-year-old topnotcher graduate of the University of the Cordilleras (UC) narrated it was an unexpected news for her.

Immatong said criminology was not her first choice but instead of shifting to education which has been close to her, she said she never regret her stay in the institution and the course she chose.

Her parents, Zeny and Anthony, herbal collector and a laborer/farmer, respectively, of Suyoc, Sablan Benguet pushed for Immatong's education despite financial constraints.

"You cannot get what you want unless you work hard for it," a note from her parents which Immatong used as an inspiration and reminder of her goal to retain her college scholarship.

With no extracurricular activities, she exerts her focus on her academics. Immatong relayed her ambitions to further continue her career in teaching and bring back the success to the faculty, the institution that bound her to build great foundation for the examination adding dedication and commitment have also contributed to her success.

"She was a promising student," said UC Criminology dean Ariel Pumecha.

"Since first year, Immatong has proven [to be] intellectual in the academic prowess being a consistent dean's lister and during their internship, she opted to become an officer that's why it’s [no] challenge for her during that time, during the review she also topped the mock board examination," said Pumecha.

Pumecha added the university has been performing very well in board examination in criminology which remains a challenge for students to retain the culture of UC being a top performing school.

Pumecha added it is not only a matter of producing topnotchers but also an obligation.

Immatong was taken in as an instructor in UC starting January 15, teaching basic and minor subjects among first year students adding it has been her biggest dream to become an instructor.

Pumecha mentioned several alumni's who stood ranks in the criminology board examinations includes roster of lawyers, deans, politicians, and police officers.

Immatong become part of the 129 students among the University of Cordillera's roll of criminology board topnotchers.

"If you have a weak foundation in academics in that matter you will not gain success," Immatong said.
