SKIMBOARDERS will take the center stage when the Mini Skim Competition, a joint program of the Davao Oriental Boardriding Club and Ride Nature Organization, unfurls on February 8 at the Dahican Surf Resort in Mati City, Davao Oriental.
Davao Oriental Boarding Club president Gracie Plata, in a Facebook conversation with SunStar Davao, said the event also doubles as try outs for the local skimboarders who will represent Davao Region Team for the planned Mindanao Skim Boarding Tour slated in September.
"This is also a dry run/simulation for an international skim boarding event that will be hosted in Davao Oriental in January 2019," said Plata pertaining to the Davao Oriental International Skim Boarding Cup which is in line with the Board Up-Boardsports Lifestyle Expo.
Plata shared that Cebu City, Samar Leyte and other regions are already forming their teams for the upcoming international event; hence, Davao Region shouldn’t be behind.
"Mura ni siyag qualifying rounds for the international; ang top 10 kay automatic pasok," said Plata, adding that skimboarders outside Davao Region may also join the event.
This free-registration event, according to Plata, also aims to promote board sports and support local talents, thus, they seek for generous sponsors to help them achieve their goals.
Plata clarified that the sponsorship they seek will cover contingency expenses such as food, technical equipment and goodies since the event is independently organized.
She added that skimboards courtesy of Zap Skim Boards Florida will be awarded to the winners.
