WITH the intensified campaign on “Oplan Katok” and “Bilang Boga” of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo), several loose firearms, explosives, and ammunition were surrendered to Himamaylan City Police Station on Monday.
The surrendered items included two rifle grenades, rocket parachute flare; signal ground amber star flare (rifle propelled), plastic magazine and 71 live cartridges of M16 rifle, 14 live cartridges .30 caliber Garand rifle, three improvised firearms locally known as “sulpak” with two live cartridges of 12 gauge shotgun, homemade .45 caliber pistol with four live cartridges and magazine, homemade .38 caliber revolver with three live cartridges, homemade magnum .22 caliber revolver, .38 caliber revolver, and magnum .22 caliber revolver.
These were personally and voluntarily surrendered to Chief Inspector Antonio Benitez Jr., city police chief, through the conduct of house-to-house visitation and information dissemination within the city.
These are now under the custody of the police station for proper disposition.
In a press statement, Senior Superintendent Rodolfo Castil Jr., Nocppo director commended those who comply with the law and cooperate with the police campaign.
Castil encouraged the Negrenses to support and participate on their campaign through surrendering, monitoring, and reporting of incidents involving illegal use of firearms, explosives, and ammunition to reduce related crimes.
In Bacolod City, a resident of Barangay Felisa surrendered an improvised firearm locally known as “pugakang” to Chief Inspector Charles Gever, head of Police Station 10 last, January 14.
This is in line with the “Kontra Boga” or “Suko Baril” program of Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) and its 10 police stations.
The BCPO continued to remind gun holders to surrender unlicensed firearms to authorities.
