Kapampangan to be featured on 'Dayaw'

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Kapampangan Gawad sa Manlilikha ng Bayan (Gamaba) awardee Eduardo Mutuc will be featured on the third episode of "Dayaw Season 4 – Vessels of Culture" on Thursday, January 18, at 6:30 p.m., on ABS-CBN News Channel (ANC).

Senator Loren Legarda said Mutuc will be featured along with other Gamaba awardees like Federico Caballero of Iloilo and Uwang Ahadas of Basilan, who were both awarded in 2000.

Mutuc received his Gamaba award in 2004. The Gamaba or National Living Treasure award is one of the most prestigious awards given to traditional artists in the Philippines, similar to the National Artist award.

Local cultural advocate Ching Pangilinan said that in the history of the Gawad ng Manlilikha ng Bayan Awards, there has been only one Kapampangan recipient to date, Eduardo Tubig Mutuc of Apalit.

Meanwhile, Legarda said that through the episode of Dayaw, people can learn a lot from these cultural masters as we admire the complexity and richness of their work

“This episode looks into the lives, genius artistry and works of three artists who possess unique cultural talents. Mutuc is a metalsmith who has dedicated his life to creating religious and secular art pieces such as altars and carosas,” Legarda said.

"Dayaw", conceptualized and hosted by Senator Legarda, and produced by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and ANC, is a six-part, 30-minute weekly documentary series that focuses on the preservation of the country’s culture and heritage.
