Crime lab to serve Mindanao's DNA test needs

THE Regional Crime Laboratory Office (RCLO) said that its new building comes equipped with modern deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) equipment and that they will be using this by the end of this month, to serve the DNA tests requirements for crime scene investigations for the whole Mindanao.

Used to be, DNA processing is done in their headquarters at the National Capital Region.

With the recent inauguration of the new crime laboratory office on Candelaria St., Ecoland, Davao City and the acquisition of state-of-the-art facilities for forensic investigation, RCLO Regional Director Police Superintendent Georby Manuel said regular work at the crime laboratory had already started although the DNA processing will start by last week of January.

With this new DNA machine, work will be expedited and evidences can be processed with greater accuracy and efficiency.

Manuel said that they will cater to the five regions in Midanao. Each region has detailed personnel.

The building alone costs P50 million. It has a P269-million Automated Fingerprint Identification System; a P50-million deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) equipment; and a P12-million forensic bullet comparison microscope.

He assured that their forensic experts are competent and they have undergone series of trainings locally and internationally as there is no room for mistakes in solving cases.

He also said that their forensic staff are trained in accordance to the International Organization for Standardization as their office is ISO-certified.
