TWO personnel of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) and two unidentified persons were killed in a shootout in Tunasan, Muntinlupa City early Thursday, January 18.
Southern Police District Director Tomas Apolinario said based on an initial report, Jail Officer 1 Felino Salazar and Jail Officer 2 Elmer Malibdao had just left the BJMP office in Tunasan onboard a motorcycle when unidentified armed men engaged them in a shootout.
The two jail officers were rushed to the Medical Center of Muntinlupa but were declared dead on arrival.
One of the suspects was also reportedly killed during the incident. Another fatality has yet to be identified, said Apolinario.
Four short firearms- two from the BJMP personnel and two from the suspects were recovered from the scene.
“A Bureau of Corrections personnel who was at the crime scene and armed with a short firearm was also arrested and now considered as a person of interest,” Apolinario said.
He said investigators are trying to secure the CCTV footages which may have captured the incident for the identification of the suspects and to identify the circumstances of the incident and its motive.
Meantime, BJMP spokesperson Xavier Solda condoled with the families of the slain officers and assured that the agency will conduct an in-depth investigation on the incident. (SunStar Philippines)
