Public warned vs harmful weight-loss products

THE Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) warned the public against buying weight loss products after investigations showed its risks to user’s health.

The agency’s post marketing surveillance (PMS) activities confirmed that products Lean ‘n Green Coffee with Green Coffee Bean, Psyllium Fiber Husk, and Garcinia Cambogia have not been issued a proper authorization in the form of certification of product registration. The three are unregistered products.

"The agency could not guarantee the quality and safety of the three products,” the FDA said in its advisory.

FDA said the consumption of such volatile products may pose potential health hazards to the consuming public, thus, it advised not to purchase these three weight-loss products.

The food products including food supplements should not bear any misleading, deceptive, and false claims in their labels and/or any promotional materials that will provide erroneous impression on products’ character or identity.

Concerned establishments are warned not to distribute the three food products until they have already been covered by the product registration, otherwise, regulatory actions and sanctions shall be strictly pursued, the FDA said.

The local government units (LGUs) and law enforcement agencies (LEA) are also requested to ensure that the product is not sold or made available in their localities or areas of jurisdiction.
