RESIDENTS of barangays Lumbia and Taglimao will soon be relieved of their water problems as the water system project of the Cagayan de Oro City Government nears completion.
According to City Councilor Teodulfo Lao Jr., the chairman of the Committee on Public Utilities, the estimated P4-million Level 1 and 2 water system project started in 2017 to address the water problem in Sitio Palalan in Barangay Lumbia and Barangay Taglimao.
"Actually, wala kasing water system itong dalawang barangay, kaya binigyan ng proyekto ng LGU (local government unit) ng Cagayan de Oro para mabigyan sila ng water system (there's no water system in the two barangays so the City Government established the water system project)," Lao said.
He also said that the only source of water of the residents was a spring located far from the said barangays, adding that the Cagayan de Oro Water District does not have any water lines connected to the barangays.
“Dependent sila sa spring, yung umaagas na tubig sa bukid, doon sila nag iigib ng tubig (They are dependent on the spring, they fetch their water from there),” Lao said.
The water system project, Lao said, is also in relation to the City Government's program of relocating typhoon victims in the city, families whose houses were destroyed due to the flooding caused by Typhoons Sendong and Vinta, as one of the identified relocation sites is Barangay Lumbia.
The city councilor added that the City Government created a reservoir in Sitio Palalan, Barangay Lumbia as means of water source for the barangays.
"Malakas yung tubig nila doon sa Sitio Palalan. Doon kinuha yung tubig papuntang Lumbia at Taglimao (Sitio Palalan has a great source of water so we got the water supply from the sitio to Lumbia and Taglimao)," Lao said.
The water from the reservoir will then be distributed to the households through the soon-to-be-completed water system.
