‘Tokhang Reboot’ to kick off Jan. 22 in Western Visayas

THE Police Regional Office (PRO)-Western Visayas will relaunch on January 22 Oplan Tokhang Reboot for a more organized and proper conduct of house-to-house visitation and identification of drug personalities in Western Visayas.

Superintendent Gilbert Gorero, spokesperson of PRO-Western Visayas, said Thursday, January 18, “Tokhang Reboot” is in support of the recent pronouncement of Director General Ronald de la Rosa, chief of Philippine National Police, during a command conference, to bring back the true spirit of “Tokhang.”

The term was coined from the words “toktok” (knock) and hangyo (appeal or request) involving visits to the homes of drug personalities to convince them to surrender.

Gorero said “Tokhang Reboot” is the region's best practice with the purpose to “knock and appeal” to the drug personalities to surrender and avail of free drug rehabilitation or intervention and after-care programs of the government.

The surrenderers will be given guidance to prevent them from returning to their old habit, making them God-fearing, law-abiding, and productive citizens of this country, he added.

It also aims to determine the actual number of pushers and users of illegal drugs in the region and to encourage them to cease their illegal drug activity and resist the evil of drugs through the participative citizenry.

It will reintegrate drug surrenderers into the community and consider them as advocate for change, helping them access opportunities such as employment.

“Tokhang Reboot” is also aimed at developing strong inter-agency and multi-sectoral relationship towards realization of a drug-cleared community.

Gorero said drop boxes will be placed in barangay halls and municipal police stations to encourage public to submit names of the suspected drug personalities within their area.

All names will be subjected to validation.

The PRO-Western Visayas called on the public to support the program to achieve drug-cleared villages in the region.
