Kapuso celebs invade Cebu

SIX of GMA’s hottest stars invaded Cebu in time for the Sinulog weekend festivities.

Dennis Trillo, Lovi Poe, Miguel Tanfelix, Bianca Umali, Ruru Madrid and new Kapuso star Matt Evans promoted their respective projects during a GMA press conference held at Golden Cowrie in Barangay Lahug, Cebu City last Friday.

“It feels good to be back,” said actress, model and singer Poe. This is not her first time to be in Cebu at the peak of the Sinulog celebration. However, she lamented that she has never really had the chance to enjoy the feast because it has always been about work.

“Next time, I want it to be for the celebration,” Poe said.

Drama King Dennis Trillo gleefully stated how happy he was to be back in Cebu. He said that he is present annually to celebrate Sinulog with the Cebuanos. This time, though, he wants to experience the Sinulog party vibe.

“The One That Got Away” stars Trillo and Poe shared to the media what it is like working on a romantic-comedy (rom-com) genre. Poe said the project is her first rom-com as she had always been tapped to do drama.

“It’s very refreshing for me to do something where I don’t need to shed tears. I’m getting the feel of it and I’m loving it so much,” said Poe.

Trillo, for his part, said that the rom-com is a great genre for him and Poe just to break the trend, since most people know them individually for heavy drama shows.

When asked if they believe in the concept of “the one that got away,” both actors said yes. The teleserye started airing last Jan. 15.

Meanwhile, today’s rising love team of Tanfelix and Umali also shared their Sinulog feels. They said they were honored to attend this festive event in Cebu every year especially since both of their moms were from Cebu.

They play the lead roles in “Kambal Karibal,” which started airing last November.

Umali said that there’s a big difference in their characters in “Kambal Karibal” and their previous roles. Both admitted they were starstruck working with veteran actor Christopher de Leon as well as Jean Garcia and Carmina Villaroel. The first few days of taping were nerve-racking.

The upcoming TV series “Sherlock Jr.” will be about an investigative writer of a newspaper that will be played by Kapuso heartthrob Madrid. And it will introduce the newest member of the Kapuso family: Evans.

“It’s very relaxed. There’s no dull moment in our set,” said Evans when asked how it was working with his castmates.

The light action-drama-comedy series will air on Jan. 29. (Aubrey Rose Secuya, USJ-R Intern)
