4 soldiers hurt in Naawan road mishap

FOUR soldiers were injured when the vehicle they were riding in collided with a taxi around 1 a.m. Saturday along the national highway in Naawan town, Misamis Oriental province.

They were heading to Cagayan de Oro City from Iligan City when the incident happened.

Dr. Charles Marquez, who was in a convoy, said the victims were conscious when brought to the nearest hospital, adding that the driver of the taxi apparently lost control and hit the rear portion of the military vehicle.

Major Roger Conmigo, executive officer of 4th Mech, identified the injured soldiers as staff sergeant Elmer Demontano and privates Jaybon Herva, Gison Pacamalan and Junjim Polvoriza who are already out of danger.

Demontano and Pacamalan have already went home while Herva and Polvoriza were transferred to a hospital in Iligan City for treatment.

The driver was brought to Naawan Municipal Police Station for further questioning.

The victims belonging to the 4th Mechanized Infantry Battalion, Philippine Army were part of the convoy with some civilian volunteers and doctors of the community outreach program in Sitio Limunsundan, Barangay Rogongon, Iligan City under the office of Iligan City Lone District Representative Frederick Siao.

“We are supposed to distribute food packs to the residents with the Department of Social Welfare and Development and conduct medical mission with the Department of Health and PAMET,” said Armien Alorro, a staff of Cong. Siao.
