No Smart, Globe services during Sinulog Grand Parade

TELECOMMUNICATION companies Smart Communications and Globe Telecom have again shut down services in some parts of Cebu City effective 8 a.m. Sunday, January 21, 2018, because of the Sinulog Grand Parade.

Services will be restored as soon as the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) gives the green light.

But as in the past couple of years, mobile services are usually restored shortly after the grand parade ends.

Affected are Smart, Sun, and TNT services.

In its advisory, Smart said the shutdown is being made “in the interest of public safety” and in compliance with the NTC order, which was issued upon the request of the Philippine National Police.

Affected areas are parts of Cebu City and neighboring areas.

Smart has also temporarily shut down services in some areas in Kalibo, Aklan, where the annual Ati-atihan Festival is being held simultaneously.

“We will restore our mobile phone services once we receive the go-signal from the authorities,” the telco advisory stated.

Globe also sent out an advisory early Sunday on the shutdown of its mobile, Globe at Home LTE and Prepaid WiFi services, also effective 8a.m. Sunday.

There is currently no mobile signal along the Sinulog Grand Parade route as well as in neighboring areas. (SunStar Philippines)
