Mayor thankful for blessings being enjoyed by Kabankalan

KABANKALAN CITY -- Mayor Isidro Zayco said city officials and residents are thankful to God and to their patron saint Sto. Niño for all the blessings Kabankalan has enjoyed.

The southern Negros city celebrated on Sunday the highlights of the 42nd Sinulog Festival where locals and tourists enjoyed painting their faces and bodies with black paints or oil-soaked charcoal while going around the festival sites.

Zayco said this is the time of the year that their people have the opportunity to enjoy with their family and friends with the many activities prepared for the week-long festivity.

“I am happy with the support and cooperation of the 31 barangays for our festival. We thank Sr. Sto. Niño for blessing us and freeing our city and people from natural calamity,” he said.

In terms of investors, Kabankalan now has business establishments such as Puregold, CityMall, Robinsons Place, Gaisano Grand, Citi Hardware, MassKara Chicken, and many others.

“We have increased our job opportunities with the entry of these investors,” the mayor said.

Airport fund

Meanwhile, Zayco said the Department of Transportation (DOTr) has allocated an additional P60 million for the concreting of the airport runway on top of the P30 million it provided in the past.

“Our city has set aside a budget of P50 million, and (also there is) P30 million from the Provincial Government. We are building our airport on our own and I asked the DOTr to do the necessary plan to help us fast track the completion of our airport,” he added.
